Огнян Златев

ognqn_zlatevОгнян Златев е ръководител на представителството на Европейската Комисия (ЕК) в София от 1 май 2013 г. От декември 2011 г. е започнал работа в Европейската Комисия в Брюксел, като началник на отдел „Комуникации“ в Генерална дирекция „Трудова заетост, социално включване и социални въпроси“.

Преди това е бил в управителния съвет на Българската национална телевизия (БНТ). В продължение на 15 години е ръководел на неправителствената организация „Център за развитие на медиите“. Паралелно с това е работил като консултант по въпроси, свързани с публичните комуникации и развитието на медиите на големи международни организации като Световната банка, ЮНЕСКО, Организация за сигурност и сътрудничество в Европа (ОССЕ).

Огнян Златев е завършил Класическа филология в Софийския университет „Св. Климент Охридски“. Средното си образование получава от Националната гимназия за древни езици и култури (НГДЕК) „Константин Кирил Философ“ и е от първия випуск на гимназията.

Ognian Zlatev

Ognian Zlatev is the Head of the European Commission Representation in Sofia as from 1st May 2013.

He joined the European Commission as Head of Communications Unit of DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion in December 2011.

He has over twenty years of professional experience in communication, media development and NGO management. His assignments took him to a number of transition societies and environments across the World (South-East Europe and Western Balkans, Southern Caucasus, Central Asia, Middle East) where he worked as a consultant for international institutions (UNESCO, OSCE, The World Bank) and media (BBC).

Before joining the European Commission, Ognian Zlatev served as Member of the Managing Board of the Bulgarian National Television (the Public Service broadcaster). Prior to that he founded and managed the Media Development Center in Bulgaria, which was established in 1998 to promote the development of independent media in Bulgaria, foster media capacity building and boost networking and cross-border cooperation in South-East Europe. He was a founding member of the South-East European Network for Professionalisation of the Media (SEENPM) to which fifteen media centres and institutes from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, and Slovenia currently belong. He was President of this organization from 2002 to 2004.

He was a lecturer at the Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Bulgaria, the Albanian Media Institute in Tirana and Media Plan Institute in Sarajevo, as well as a speaker in numerous international conferences in South-East Europe, Caucasus, Central Asia, etc.

He was Director of the Information Centre for the Open Society Institute in Sofia, Manager of the BBC Centre in Bulgaria and Exchange Officer at the British Council office in Bulgaria.

Ognian Zlatev was Board Member of the National Council for Journalism Ethics of Bulgaria. He sat on the Steering Committee of the Global Forum for Media Development and on the SEENPM board. He was a Member of the Selection Committee for the UNESCO Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize, for the annual Robert Schumann Award of the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria and for the Dr. Erhard Busek Award for Better Understanding.

Ognian Zlatev possesses expertise in development, planning and implementation of communication strategies related to EU Integration, EU policies and EU institutions, as well as in communicating reforms and policies (the launch of the Decade of Roma Inclusion, 2005 or the preparation of The World Bank Country Economic Memorandum, 2005 and Country Partnership Strategy for Bulgaria, 2007 – 2009) as well as proven experience in working with media and journalists in accession and transition countries.

Ognian Zlatev graduated from Sofia University St Kliment Ohridski and holds M.A. (Summa cum laude) in Classical Philology and specializations in Ancient Greek Culture and Bulgarian Language and Literature. Subsequently, he obtained qualifications in political communications, media relations, journalism training, international PR, European Union communications, election campaigning, media development and NGO management. His mother tongue is Bulgarian and he is fluent in English and Russian, with a working-level knowledge of Serbian and Croatian.

Ognian Zlatev is a member of the European Association of Communications Directors (EACD) since 2008.
